The recent introduction of a 7 inch Nexus tablet from Google has considerably stiffened the competition in the domain of 7 inch tablets.
Two main competitors of Google in this domain would be Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet. Amazon Kindle Fire is available only in 8 GB version which costs $199.
This tablet was released by Amazon in the fall of last year and proved to be quite a success during the initial few months. After that, however, the sales of the device considerably declined.
Kindle Fire comes with dual core 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. The OS for this device is Android 3.2 Gingerbread and it has a display resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels.
The device does not have any camera onboard and also, there is no support for microSD card.
In comparison to this, the Nook Tablet comes with the same processor and same RAM memory. It is, however, available in two models of 8 GB and 16 GB storage.
Just like Kindle Fire, it has no camera and no support for Bluetooth. However, this tablet does have a microSD card slot which allows memory expansion to as much as 32 GB.
Unlike Kindle Fire’s 8 hours battery time, this device can last 9 hours when fully charged. The 8 GB version of Nook tablet costs $199 while the 16 GB version is available for $249.
Talking about Google Nexus Tablet, the technical specs certainly seem to be more impressive. This device would come with Android 4.1 Jelly Beans and would be powered by a quad core Tegra 3 processor.
In addition, it would have 1 GB of RAM memory and a screen resolution of 1280 by 800, higher than both Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet. Besides, there is also a 1.3 mega pixel front facing camera on this device. The price of 8 GB and 16 GB versions would be same as Nook Tablets.
In the final analysis, it is pretty clear that Google Nexus tablet has a clear edge over its competitors. This means that Amazon and Barnes & Noble would need to upgrade their tablet soon with next generation version if they successfully want to compete with Google.
