While the rumors about Amazon releasing a version of its Kindle eReader equipped with backlight are on rise, latest information has revealed that Amazon has also been working on an updated version of Kindle Fire.
This updated version might hit the UK market as soon as this December, according to the sources.
However, Britons could not really enjoy the original version of Kindle Fire since Amazon pretty much restricted it to the US market. So with the rumors of next generation Kindle in the air, it seems that Amazon has decided to completely bypass the British market when it comes to the original Kindle Fire and would instead directly release Kindle Fire 2.
According to the reports by Reuters, Kindle Fire 2, which would be an 8.9 inch device, would hit the UK market just in time for Christmas.
However, there are rumors that Kindle Fire 2 would come in two sizes of 7 inch and 8.9 inch displays. Remaining technical specifications of the device are largely unknown as yet.
Amazon eReaders are among the most popular gifts for Christmas so the timing that Amazon has chosen seems to be perfect. Sources have also revealed that the updated version would be priced at £200, which happens to be a discount price.
We also have rumors about Apple releasing a mini version of iPad, mainly to compete the 7 inch Kindle Fire. However, so far there is no official information from Apple in this regard but it seems very reasonable that Apple would like to compete with Amazon in the arena of eReaders, where most of the people prefer Amazon devices over iPad mainly because of their low cost.
Amazon eReaders can be purchased at a cost as low as £100 while iPad costs more than £400, which is indeed a huge difference.
As for Kindle Fire 2, we can certainly expect several software and hardware enhancements such as video playback and streaming as well as social networking integration. For the time being, let’s just keep out fingers crossed and wait for any official information from Amazon in this regard.
