Hold onto your horses, Amazon have released a new stable of Kindles that promise to be better, faster and more importantly more accessible (read – cheaper) than previous versions. Now while much of the focus has been on iPad competitor the Kindle Fire, the Kindle Touch might just be the dark horse of the trio.
With the release of the cheaper basic Kindle, the Kindle Keyboard and Kindle Fire there has been little said about the Kindle Touch, but I bet that this will change in the future. Although your basic Kindle is currently retailing for a massively reduced $79 – if you don’t mind having ads as screen savers, or $109 if you do, the navigation system is still a little clunky and awkward and you still need to use your other hand to perform a variety of tasks.
However, with the Kindle Touch, Amazon have eliminated many of the frustrations of the original Kindle. It is still light, pencil thin and able to be slipped into your back pocket in a second, but it is also far easier to steer, with buttons strategically placed so that you really can read uninterrupted using just your reading hand. It also has a battery life twice as long as the basic model and comes in models with both WiFi and 3G capability.
The Basic Kindle will store 1400 books but the team at Amazon has doubled the capacity of the Kindle Touch and you can now download and store 3000 books in the 4GB memory. You still have free access to the Amazon Cloud for off site storage of your books as well as access to the new Kindle lending library.

For those who remember the touch screens of the past, the Kindle Touch will be a breath of fresh air. With multi touch and a fingerprint free screen, navigation is a breeze. For those still trying to read from laptops, there is no heat generated by your Kindle so you can keep reading without worrying that you are going to fry your reader!
The famous Amazon e-ink technology makes all text a dream to read and even seasoned avid paperback readers will attest to being pleasantly surprised by the ease of the kindle screen to read from. Many find that they love the format and design of the Kindle better than their 900 page novel and certainly easier to hold!
With the new X-ray feature in the Kindle Touch you can even more engrossed in your content as researching or getting background information on phrases or characters that appear in the novel is as simple as one touch of the screen. And of course you still have the option of browsing the internet with the experimental web browser feature.
The big thing with the Kindle Touch is that it has been designed with the reader in mind. While other e-readers and previous Kindles have tried to do a bit of everything, this Kindle is ergonomically designed to fit securely in your hand and be a comfortable as possible to use for as long as possible. Other improvements include faster page loading times and faster response times than the basic Kindle.
For $20 more the Kindle Touch offers far greater value for money and represents the next generation of eReader.
